He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Medicine and General Surgery from the University of Jordan and a Master's and Ph.D. in Health Policy from Johns Hopkins University, USA.
His first appointment was at the Faculty of Medicine at the Jordan University of Science and Technology for several years. He was then seconded from the university to be appointed as the Director General of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration, becoming its first Director. Before assuming the position of Minister of Health, he was appointed as the Director General of Hikma Pharmaceuticals.
